Commentaires sur la situation du français en contexte algérien post-colonisé : itinéraire d’une langue dans un espace

Abstract

Abstarct : The situation of French in the Algerian area always seems to be a social issue always questioning the policy (legislator), the specialist (socio-linguist) as much as the speaker (French or other), as it is part of a permanent evolution that that the (in) formal relationship to this language is still tainted with ambiguity, incomprehension, ambivalence and even contradiction; a proof of this contradiction is the heterogeneity characterizing the status attributed to it and / or assigned to it by some fifty or so years. This contribution, by calling in turn sociological and sociolinguistic insights, seeks to revisit current and old discourses and representations on the passage on this language and more specifically on a young population educated average French, (taken here as a case study), and necessarily engages in a process of comments in order to (re) clarify the status of French among the other languages in an Algerian area, which is turning more and more towards the globalized world of today .

Résumé : La situation de la langue française en Algérie semble constituer une actualité sociale en interpelant toujours le politique (législateur), le spécialiste (sociolinguiste) tout autant que le locuteur (francophone ou autre),tant elle s’inscrit dans une évolution permanente qui fait que le rapport(in)formel à cette langue se voit encore aujourd’hui entaché d'ambiguïté, d’incompréhension, d’ambivalence voire même de contradiction; une preuve de cette contradiction est l’hétérogénéité caractérisant les statuts qui lui sont attribués et/ou assignés voilà une cinquantaine d’années par les uns et par les autres. La présente contribution, en convoquant tour à tour des éclairages sociologiques et sociolinguistiques, cherche à revisiter des discours et des représentations actuelles et anciennes sur cette langue et plus spécifiquement chez une population jeune éduquée moyenne francophone, (prise ici comme cas d’étude), et s’engage nécessairement dans une démarche de commentaires en vue d’une (re)précision du statut du français parmi les autres langues dans une aire algérienne, qui se tourne de plus en plus vers le monde globalisé d’aujourd’hui.
