Barthes et le monde arabe : un malentendu ?

Abstract

Abstract : Roland Barthes has maintained with the Arab world paradoxical relationships, gathering at the same time remoteness and nearness. Tourist in the Maghreb, resident in Morocco where he had been teaching for one year, Barthes had sometimes been accused of indifference or condescension. It is forgetting the particular care that he has put to set his lectures for a foreign public; it is forgetting mostly the place he assigns to literature as a way of founding the individual freedom and joining cultures.

Résumé : Roland Barthes a entretenu avec le monde arabe des relations paradoxales, faites à la fois de distance et de proximité. Touriste au Maghreb, résident au Maroc où il enseigne durant une année, Barthes a parfois été accusé d'indifférence ou de condescendance. C'est oublier le soin tout particulier qu'il a mis à concevoir ses cours pour un public étranger ; c'est oublier surtout la place qu'il accorde à la littérature comme moyen de fonder la liberté du sujet et de rapprocher les cultures.
