L’oralité dans L’exil selon Julia de Jisèle Pineau : un rempart contre l’assimilation culturelle

Abstract

Abstract : Exile according to Julia is a novel written by the Guadeloupian writer JisèlePineau. It stresses on the risk of forgettingthat threatens cultural values of certain societies in exile around the world. While assimilated parents are moving towards destructive behaviors and habits, in comparison withthe survival of their communities’ identity traits. Children oscillate between the alienating temptation exerted by the host country's cultural model and thenative country's nostalgic call. Forced to go into exile in France, Julia, the grandmother, is trying to save her grandchildren by inculcating values in themfor theirinner well-being. She manages to infuse her voice with that of Marie, the narrator, who takes over and tries to bring together the scattered fragments of a conscienceand an identity under construction.

Résumé : L’Exil selon Julia de l’écrivaine guadeloupéenne Jisèle Pineau met l’accent sur le risque qui menace les valeurs culturelles chez certaines sociétés en exil dans le monde. Alors que les parents assimilés s’orientent vers des comportements et des habitudes destructrices par rapport à la survie des traits identitaires de leurs communautés, les enfants oscillent entre la tentation aliénante exercée par le modèle culturel du pays d’accueil et l’appel nostalgique du pays d’origine. Contrainte de s’exiler en France, Julia, la grand-mère, tente de sauver ses petits-fils en leur inculquant les repères impératifs à leur équilibre. Elle parvient à infuser sa voix à celle de sa petite-fille Marie, la narratrice, qui prend le relais et tente de réunir les fragments épars d’une conscience et d’une identité en construction.
