Abstract

This research examines Shiism in the Islamic East during the first two centuries of the Hijra, exploring its origins, intellectual development, and political revolts, highlighting Abdallah ibn Saba’’s role and the rise and decline of political Shiism. It concludes that hadith scholars’ methods provide the most reliable approach to early Islamic history, and that revolts failed due to power struggles, Iraqi Shiite support, betrayal, and poor preparation. This study concludes that the most reliable method for understanding early Islamic history is the hadith scholars’ approach to verifying narrations, and that Shiism emerged as a doctrine introduced into Islam by Abdallah ibn Sabâ. The revolts of the Prophet’s family failed primarily due to the pursuit of power, Iraqi Shiite support, betrayal, and inadequate preparation.
