Abstract
This thesis analyzes the dialogue between Martin Heidegger’s philosophy and art, focusing on its phenomenological approach to human existence. It analyzes how Heidegger’s ideas illuminate the literary and philosophical work of Albert Camus, highlighting their shared existential concerns. Rather than offering a formal theory of art, both thinkers are shown to approach art as an experience that reveals the meaning of dwelling in the world.
Through themes such as ethics, technology, destiny, time, place, and language, the study investigates the potential influence of Heidegger on Camus’ fiction, including concepts like authenticity, historicity, being-towards-death, and modern nihilism. The thesis proposes an interdisciplinary reading that bridges philosophy and literature, emphasizing the ethical and poetic dimensions of Camus’ novels and essays. Ultimately, it assesses whether Camus’ work can be considered Heideggerian according to his criteria for “great art.”
