Abstract
This study examines rural settlements in Blida Province, Algeria, focusing on their historical evolution, spatial distribution, and development prospects. It addresses rural housing, village structures, and the factors shaping settlement patterns, including natural conditions, infrastructure, economic activities, and demographic trends. Historical transformations—from pre-colonial times, through French occupation, to post-independence reforms—are analyzed for their impact on rural society. The research classifies settlements, evaluates their developmental weight, and proposes strategies for sustainable rural development and balanced spatial growth.
