Abstract

Memory and Feminine Writing: The Writing of Memory in the Work of Fadéla M’Rabet is a research project that examines the writing of memory in the following corpus: two essays, The Algerian Woman (1965) and Algerian Women (1967), as well as four autobiographical narratives, A Singular Childhood (2003),aWoman from Here and Elsewhere (2005), The Imam’s Café (2011), and The Waiting Room (2012). Our main objective is to demonstrate how our writer writes about memory. Therefore, we examined the two genres that Fadéla M’Rabet chooses to inscribe memory in the literary text. To do this, our analysis drew on the work of specialists, not to say theories, of the two genres: the essay and the autobiographical narrative. Our analysis also drew on various specialized works on individual and collective memory. It should be noted that we paid particular attention to the status of women, given the important role it plays in our writer's work.
